Cooldown Lager - our collaboration with Edinburgh Marathon Festival
Runners and the friends and family supporting them will have 25 and 26 May marked in their diaries because that’s the weekend of the Edinburgh Marathon Festival. Scotland’s best known and most popular running festival will be back for two days of races. Saturday will host kids races and the 5k and 10k and on Sunday 26, thousands more runners will take on the half marathon, full marathon and relay.
Not only will Bellfield be running the bars at the finishing area this year, but we've collaborated with EMF to launch a new alcohol free lager!
Last year saw over 35,000 runners and 100,000 spectators enjoying eleven different races over two days.
Voted the fastest marathon in the UK by Runner’s World, because of its largely flat course, the route takes in some of Edinburgh’s best-loved landmarks before heading along the coast, with lovely views along the East Lothian coastline, ending at Pinkie Playing Fields in Musselburgh.
That’s where you’ll find Bellfield Brewery: running three bars serving delicious fresh beers including low alcohol options and soft drinks.
Finishers, their families and supporters, will be able to enjoy a celebratory pint from one of two draught bars and a can-only bar, open on the day from 10:00 until 17:00.
This is Bellfield’s first year as the exclusive beer brand pouring at the Edinburgh Marathon Festival and we’ve collaborated on a special alcohol-free beer to mark the occasion.
Cooldown Lager (0.5% ABV) is a crisp and refreshing, pale golden lager that will be available in cans and on draught at the bars at the marathon end point.
Light malty and honey notes are balanced with delicate stone fruit and gooseberry flavours and a background note of herbs comes from the Callista, Ariana and Eclipse hops. Expect a subtle citrus aroma, and a crisp, refreshing bitterness.
Like all our beers, Cooldown Lager is certified vegan and gluten-free; a 330ml can of Cooldown contains just 59 calories (kcal).
Cooldown will be available on draught and in cans at the Bellfield Brewery Taproom and in our online store. Look out for the distinctive packaging that’s taken its inspiration from the EMF branding.
We’ve incorporated the iconic Edinburgh Castle skyline against a pattern that uses EMF's cool blue and grey colour palette.
While our core beers all use silver labels on silver cans, Cooldown features a black label on a black can, in keeping with our other alcohol-free product: the American Red IPA, Fire Island IPA.
Free half-pint for runners at the Bellfield Taproom & Beer Garden
If you're a participant in any of the EMF running events, just show proof of entry (medal or runner number) when you order at the Bellfield Taproom and you'll be able to claim a free half-pint of Cooldown Lager or any Bellfield draught beer.

Always strong supporters of International Women's Day, this year Edinburgh’s renowned Bow Bar has gone the extra mile!
Clara and Lili, two of the female members of the Bow Bar’s team, have brewed their very own bespoke beer in celebration of IWD 2024. They visited Bellfield Brewery on a cold weekend in February, to brew a Belgian Pale Ale that they’ve named “Sweet Dreams Are Made of Yeast”. This 6% ABV pale ale is hoppy and malty in equal measure.
International Women's Day - Rational Creatures IPA 2024
For International Women's Day on the 8th March we'll be releasing our 2024 version of Rational Creatures IPA (4.3%)
Recently brewed by the women of Bellfield, expect a fresh, flavourful pale ale with a honeyed, creamy, malty core and a pronounced stone fruit and citrus kick.
This year is the fifth time that the women of Bellfield have got together to brew a special beer to mark International Women's Day (IWD) on 8th March.
