At Bellfield Brewery, located in the historic brewing district of Abbeyhill, Edinburgh (just on the edge of the city centre), we’ve been on a mission since 2015 to craft exceptional beers that are also 100% vegan and gluten-free.
Bellfield was recognised as Scottish Brewery of the Year 2023 at the Scottish Beer Awards due to the consistent high performance of our beers across blind tastings for all categories. As the UK’s first dedicated gluten-free brewery, inclusion and innovation are at the heart of everything we do. With an exciting phase of growth on the horizon, we are looking for a self-motivated and enthusiastic Business Development Manager to join our team and help drive our expansion.
The Role:
We’re seeking a driven Business Development Manager with a proven track record in the Scottish and UK drinks market. The candidate will have responsibility for growing volume and profitability with our existing customers as well as securing new business in line with our business objectives. The ideal candidate will have experience of the Scottish (and ideally UK) on-trade and have experience of working with UK wholesalers. Experience of managing supermarkets and the export market would be an added advantage. Salary:
From £40,000 pa depending on experience.
Experience:
3-5 years within the on-trade with supermarket experience a bonus.
Location:
A hybrid role operating from our brewery in Edinburgh with a significant part of the week taken up with trade visits. This would primarily be in the Central Belt of Scotland with a focus on Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Working Hours:
Full-time, permanent role 37.5 hours per week. Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM. On occasions some flexibility will be required to work evenings or weekends when representing Bellfield at industry or trade events.

Key Responsibilities:
- Growth of Existing Customers: Develop the relationship Bellfield has with existing wholesale customers and direct delivery accounts. Determine customer requirements and present compelling proposals to increase volume and drive profitable sales.
- Customer Acquisition & Business Development: Developing and executing a strategy to further develop our distribution. We have had significant success in securing direct delivery partnerships with pubs, bars and restaurants over the last 18 months driving high double digit year-on-year growth. This will remain a key focus moving forward. Allied to this we will be seeking to strengthen our partnerships with wholesalers to expand and develop further distribution through these channels.
- Managing Team: Line management of our Sales & Marketing Manager (+ Field Sales Exec), providing guidance and support as required. As the business develops we will be seeking to further strengthen the sales team.
- Collaboration with Management: Work with the wider management team on business strategy and operations and reporting directly to the CEO.
- Sales Reporting: Regularly update the management team on sales contacts, active proposals for listings and report against weekly and monthly sales KPIs.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- A clear understanding of the brewery sales environment covering wholesalers, leased, managed and independent free of trade operations as well as hospitality groups.
- Retail and export experience would be a plus.
- A practical knowledge and experience of small pack, cask and keg beer.
- Proven experience selling directly to pubs, hotels and restaurants. Field sales work will form a large part of this role as we continue to prioritise draught distribution.
- The ability to effectively prioritise business objectives with excellent communication and presentation skills. Experience of communicating effectively to all stakeholders.
- Tenacity and commitment aligned with strong negotiating and influencing skills.
- Maintained customer contact records with a proficiency in CRM systems (we use Copper CRM) and experience with financial and sales reporting and forecasting.
- Experience of preparing and presenting business proposals.
- Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Experience of hosting trade tastings and acting as a brand ambassador.
- Experience of developing and executing company sales and marketing plans.
- A “can-do” attitude - as a fast growing business we are seeking a flexible, collaborative approach from an individual who is comfortable taking the initiative.
- A valid UK driving license.
